John L. Schoeff, 75, WSU graduate
VALLEJO, Calif. -- John L. Schoeff, a former La Crosse resident and graduate of Washington State University, died of complications of cancer Monday at a care home here. He was 75.
He was born Dec. 26, 1924, to John and Verdella Barkdoll Schoeff at College Place, Wash. He grew up on the family farm at La Crosse and attended school for two years at the local country school and graduated from La Crosse High School.
He graduated from Washington State University and then served in the U.S. Navy.
He moved to Vallejo 45 years ago and worked as a chemical engineer for Union Oil. He retired in 1984 after 31 years with the company.
He was a member of the Vallejo Gem and Mineral Society, past president and member of the Unocal Retirement Club and the Oakland Cactus Society. He was a beekeeper, clockmaker and traveler. He enjoyed restoring antique cars and gardening.
Survivors include a daughter, Marie Goodman of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a son, Lyle G. Schoeff of Pittsburg, Calif.; a sister, Verle Ashlock of Rosalia; a brother, Howard Schoeff of Clarkston; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today at the First Lutheran Church of Vallejo. The Rev. David Prinz will officiate. Burial will be at Skyview Memorial Lawn in Vallejo.
