Westmoreland Chancery Court Case
It was necessary in 1847 for him to sue his wards to obtain reimbursement for his expenses.
Petition of John Critcher Jr. In 1844, he qualified as guardian of Letty Chandler, infant daughter of William C. Chandler, dec'd, and took possession of her estate - two slaves worth about $1350 and real property worth about $40. Chandler in his will directed the guardian of his children to expend so much of the principal of his estate as might be necessary to defray the expenses of their education. During the past three years, he has expended for maintenance & education, $253.34 beyond the income of his ward. He asks that a guardian ad litem be assigned for settlement of his accounts.
A similar petition was for James Chandler who also had inherited the same property. The expenditures of John Critcher had been $197.14 beyond the income of his ward.
Letty Chandler and James Chandler by William Hull their guardian ad litem both declared they were infants under the age of twenty-one and place their interests in the hands of the court

No dates on the following decrees, but information with the file suggests this was not settled until 1852. Apparently courts moved slowly then, too.
