Left St. Joseph for California via Salt Lake, May 24th, 1849....
Sept. 7th—Stopped on the Plains until Capt. Thomas came up. We stopped over night, and then traveled seventeen miles over hills and hot sand, and encamped three miles west of Willow Springs. At these Springs we found the remains of some ten or twelve wagons, which clearly evinced a vast destruction of property;
