James Creyton Woolworth appears to have traveled west with the Haden family,
living near and even in the same household with them in Alabama, Louisiana,
and then Texas. The Hadens came from Rowan County, North Carolina, heading
west in the 1830s. I notice that Aaron Woolworth, of about the same age as
James and also a Northerner, lived in Rowan County, North Carolina. Aaron was
a silversmith and James a carriage-maker. James's parents are unknown, but
there were so few Southern Woolworths in those days, it doesn't seem entirely
impossible that he and Aaron were cousins, both artisans, who decided to head
south together to seek their fortunes. Does anyone know anything that would
support or refute this idea?
