Orma Emilie (Hanson) McInnis was born on May 2, 1907 in Gann Valley, SD to Lewis H. and Lille Vuy (Marshall) Hanson. She was the eldest of ten children, attending school in Wessington Springs and Gann Valley, graduating from Wessington Springs Junior College in 1926. She married A.C. McInnis in 1927 and they settled in Medford Minnesota, and had nine children all born at home. Her daughter Lavonne May was struck and killed at the age of ten by a drunk driver. Orma and A.C. divorced and she moved to Pierre, SD in 1945 with her seven children. Her son Dale with the US Army was killed in action in Vietnam in 1966. She worked numerous Jobs in Pierre including the Liberty Café for Al Faulk, Farmers Union Co-op, and St. Mary's Hospital, from which she retired at age 72. Orma lived at home until 2004 when failing health forced her to move into Maryhouse. Orma was a 38 continuous year member of the Veteran's of Foreign War Auxiliary and a Gold Star Mother. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and Daughters of the Colonial War. She is survived by five children: Marie Lamm of Philip, SD, Robert (Beth) McInnis of Mesa, AZ, Darlene (Adam) Treib of Orofino, ID, Patrick and John McInnis both of Pierre; two sisters Esther Farries of Pierre and Arlene (Orville) Knodel of Topeka, KS, one special sister-in-law Elizabeth (Forsythe) Hanson of Pierre and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons Dale and Albert; two daughters Lillian Reimer and Lavonne; her parents; five brothers Harlon, Orville, Russell, Harold and Bernard and two sisters Verna Tryon and Velda Klemann.
