Gardner would have been only about 11 in 1850, yet no children are listed with Gardner & Fanny. In fact I find no Gardner Comstock in the U.S. born in 1838, or near that year. And he is said to have been born in Canada. It is also true that I do not find any Gardner in Oneida Co NY in 1840, although son Calvin is there.

Interestingly, in the 1851 Canadian census there is a Gardner Comstock in the following household in Canada West (Ontario), Leeds Co, Escott:
