Individual Details

In 1860, James A. Biswell & family was in Jasper Twp along with many of the Wood, Morton, Asbell families. Curiously there is a Mary Morton, age 43 or 63, born in Virginia, that is living in the household. I have no idea who she might be. Elizabeth Asbill Biswell DID have an Aunt Mary Asbill, sister to her father Thomas J. Asbill. She might have been close to this age but she is said to have married a Johnson and was born in Kentucky. There is also the possibility that Thomas J. Asbill had no sister at all.

Ashley Biswell served in the 2nd Cherokee Mounted Rifles under Gen. Stand Watie during the Civil War.

1870. The family still lived in the same place. Four children, M.A. [Mary Ann] age 14. S.M. [Sarah] age 11. Nancy age 8, and A. S. [Artie] age 2.

Ashley and Elizabeth are said buried in Crawford Co, AR in the Biswell family plat - they are not listed in the cemetery book History in Headstones.
