Thomas Hallock

(Abt 1660 - 19 Mar 1718)

Find A Grave Memorial # 59283504
Thomas-3 Hallock was a son of William-2 and Abigail (____) Hallock.

His birth year of 1660 is estimated based from events that happened to his children and grandchildren. His death date is from the Salmon Records, a privately maintained record of marriages and deaths in Southold.

He married Hope Comstock of New London, Conn approximately 1680.

As for their children, the 1698 Southold census gives the following in Thomas' and Hope's household (entries were usually given in age order):

Thomas, Kingsland, Ichabod, Zerubabbel, Anna, Patience, and Richard.

Then, in the Salmon Records, we have recorded on April, 1698 (no specific date given, the next entry was dated the 7th, although dates were occasionally out of order): "Thos Halliock a child dead". I don't know if the census was taken before or after April 7th.

In regard to the above list, the Hallock Genealogy of 1992 add Hope and Mehitable, who married William Downs in a Mar 18, 1723/4 Salmon Marriage Record. The Hallock Genealogy attributes the Apr 1698 Salmon death record of "a child" to Thomas.

Note that Thomas-3's brother, William-3 lists a daughter named Mehitable in his will, who is not otherwise accounted for. She could have been the Mehitable who married William Downs, but misplaced in the 1992 genealogy as a daughter of Thomas.

The 1928 Hallock Genealogy goes on to say: ""Thomas Hallock was given, in his father's will, the western half of the Peter Hallock purchase in Aquebogue or West Mattituck. He undoubtedly lived and died upon this land, but nothing is known of his death or burial."
