Jesse Perkins

Listed in Madison Co MS 1850 Census, p.174; Household 660. Age 62 [he was 52], planter, born in VA. Value of real estate owned is $26,080. Daughter Mary was born in VA in 1833 - son James born in MS in 1841. Also living in the household was Anthony Perkins, age 54, born Virginia [no doubt his brother], and Allen Gray age 24, overseer, born in Georgia.
There was another Perkins in Madison Co, MS that I cannot identify; he apparently had no wife or children.

The Index to the 1845 Mississippi State Census lists I. H. Perkins
The 1850 census, Madison Co, does indeed show a Peter Brown, age 37, b. VA, whose wife was Agnes and five children in the household, Hh 215. Peter was a wagon maker.
In 1840, I. H. Perkins was listed as age 20-30. There was no one else in his household. He did have a large number of slaves for such a young man - 93 all together.
9m under, 22m 10-24, 11m 24-36, 5m 35-55. 9f under 10, 22f 10-26, 10f 26-35, 5f 35-55
W. P. Perkins was age 40-50, as was a D. P. Perkins, listed one right after another. W. P. had 73, D. P. had 4.
Jesse Perkins was there in Madison Co in 1840 - he had one male, age 20-30 and two males age 30-40. There were 2f age 5-10, and 1f age 20-30. Jesse had 50 slaves.
I checked the slave census of 1850, to see what might have happened to all the slaves of I. H. Perkins. Peter Brown was listed with 12 slaves. Jesse Perkins had 78; no other Perkins listed.
