Subject: John Childress Farmer
I am currently researching the descendants of John Childress Farmer, my second cousin twice removed. He was not born in Albemarle County, VA, but rather in Robertson County, TN, about 1809-1810. His grandparents were Joseph Childress and Elizabeth Binkley, the sister of my great-great grandfather. His parents were Samuel Farmer [1784-1866] and Sarah Childress [1790-1876].
The Childresses are believed to have come to Robertson Co. from Stokes Co., NC, about 1799 when Elizabeth's father John Binkley came to TN.
John C. Farmer's oldest daughter is shown in census records to have been born in Kentucky, most likely Logan County, which adjoins Robertson County, TN,
I also show a birth date of 10 May 1837 for his daughter Pocahontas, the source being the Mary Barry Freeman papers on microfilm at the Tennessee State Library and Archives. Mrs. Freeman gave as her source a letter from Stella Thompson, daughter of Pocahontas Farmer.
