Matthias St. John

Matthias was the immigrant, coming to Dorchester, MA in 1631 or 32 - he was made a freeman, 3 Sep 1634. His name is recorded also as "Sension" and "Sention". He received a grant of 20 acres in Dorchester, 14 Jan 1635. He sold his property in Dorchester 23 Apr 1638 and by 1640 had been granted a lot in Windsor, CT. He was one of the settlers in Wethersfield, where by 1658, he had sold his property to Thomas Wickham. He was a Juryman at Hartford, CT, in Marcy of 1650. In 1654 he moved again - to Norwalk. His will was dated 19 Oct 1669, and he died in Norwalk in in late October or November of that year. His estate was inventoried, 31 Jan 1669/70. He mentioned his wife in his will, but not by name. On 3 Jan 1670/1, the Town of Norwalk mentioned his son, also named Matthais. Named in the will was youngest son, James Sention (to receive the dwelling house and supporting his mother). After the death of wife, son Samuel, Epraim Lockwood, whose relationship is not stated,, son Mathias, and son Mark were to receive the meadows in five parts. Epraim received two of five parts jointly with Samuel and was likely a son-in-law. Mathias was to receive two parts - indicating he was likely the eldest son. Mark received one part. If James should die and not receive the home lot, it was to be divided between the others, Mathias receiving a double part. Mattias also mentions brother and sister Hoit. His brother Hoit (likely a brother-in-law) and sons Mathias & Mark to be overseers.
