He was a Baptist minister, said to have become so at age 17. First married in 1837 to Nancy Skinner, daughter of Cortlan Skinner & Hannah Reed. Nine children. By 1850, the family was in Clay Co, KY.
About 1851, the family moved to Texas - down the Mississipi and into the Gulf. Two of their children - Henry & Melinda - had died young in Kentucky. Nancy became ill with a fever and died after they reached the Gulf of Mexico and was buried at sea. They landed at Port Arthu, where the loaded wagons and headed north. Probably first settled in Mt. Pleasant in Titus Co, TX.
About 1853, Edward married Elizabeth Ann (Jones) Buchannan, a widow with three small children. They had five children, all born in Titus Co.
During the Civil War, Edward was a Chaplin. One of his sons, William, died of wounds but had walked home before he died.
The family moved to Hill Co, TX in the late 1870's where Elizabeth died in 1873.
Parson Bowman married a third time to the widow Mary Matilda (Carlton) Killough Johnson about 1874-75. They had one son. In 1876, they gave two acres of land for a Baptist Church. It was near Hubbard in Hill Co and was named the Bowman Baptist Church.
Edward was also a 32nd degree Mason, affiliated with the Mount Calm Lodge, #204.
He died 31 May 1891 in Hill County. In all he was the father of 15 children and 4 stepchildren.
