Jacob Beck

Devault Beck had a son, Jacob, who married Mary Winkler. This couple, along with a party of German immigrants which included Jacob's father and Mary's father, Ludwig Winkler, moved to Rowan (now Davidson) County, North Carolina. John Beck was born October 17, 1777 at Abbotts Creek Community. As a young man, John moved to Lincoln Co., and later to Buncomb County where he met and married Jane Swearingen, daughter of Samuel Swearingen (c.1800). Around 1806 John and Jane and members of Jane's family moved to Haywood County and settled on the Oconalufty River (now Swain County and part of the Cherokee Indian Reservation). John and Jane were members of the Ocanalufty Baptist Church. John and Jane S. Beck had nine children. One of their sons, Samuel (GRANDSON, not a son - son of Jacob's son John), born 11 April 1806, married Cynthia White, b. 26 July 1829. Samuel and Cynthia moved to Camp Creek aroung 1830. They had seven children.

In the name of God, Amen, I Jacob Beck, being very sick and weak in body, but in perfect mind and memory calling to mind the mortatlity of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men to die, I do make my last will and Testament, that is to say.
first of all, I give and commend my soul into the hands of Almight God who gave it and my body to be buried in a Christian mann and as brushing such wordly wherewith the Lord has bless me with I give and dispose unto my son Lewis, the trat of Lands where I now live containing fifty acres of Land, for the maintainance of me and my wife as long as we live before my estate is divided, it beging for favors done and in the third and last place after our Death, the following of our property I want divided equally amongst any living children. And I do disallow all other wills, heretofore made by me, and this to be my last will and Testament. Given under my hand and seal this 28th day of July 1826. And I do appoint Fredrick Beck, Lewis Beck, as sole executors of this my last will and Testament.
