Samuel Hauver was born in Hudson, Columbia County, New York to Jacob Henry Hauver and Margaret Stever Hauver. I do not know if Samuel had any siblings. Lois Buttles was born in Beckett, Massachusetts, the seventh and youngest child of Captain Jonathan Buttles and Lucy Whitney Buttles. They were married on June 17, 1838 in Lee, Massachusetts. At the time of their marriage Samuel was living in Copake, New York. After living in Copake for one year they removed, May 1, 1839, to North Lee, Massachusetts and bought two acres of land about half a mile from the village, on Bradley Street, where they lived until 1848 or 1852. In September 1852 he sold his place which contained a quarry of marble to a company engaged in building the Capitol extension in Washington, DC, and moved to Nichols, NY and thence in the autumn of 1856 to Owego, NY settling on the south side of the Susquehanna River where they were still living in 1874. (Source - “Whitney Family” book) Samuel and Lois had six children: Margaret A. (born June 26, 1839), Charles W. (born December 1, 1844), Emma Jane (July 24, 1848 - 1919), Lucy A. (1850 - April 14, 1937), George L. (December 21, 1858 - October 19, 1948) and Frank Melvin (May 3, 1862 - 1925). Samuel and Lois both died in Owego, Tioga County, New York and are buried in the cemetery at Gibson Corners in Tioga County, NY. Samuel was age 61 and Lois was 73.
