Robert "Boston Bob" Baker
(29 Apr 1800 - 2 Apr 1871)
A magazine article about the Baker brothers gives his birth as 29 Feb 1800. The same article gives his marriage date to Sarah Rogers as 25 Jul 1820.
Buried Boston Gap Cemetery, Manchester, Clay Co, KY. Said to have served in Company C, 48th Regt, in the Civil War but I very much doubt that he did - it must have been a much younger Robert/Bob Baker. I did find the following in a WorldConnect file:
"At the age of 63, on August 19, 1863, Robert "Boston Bob" Baker joined Capt. John C. Wilson's Company D, 47th KY. Mounted Infantry. He served until December 26, 1864. His pension application states: While in the service and in the line of duty, on or about June 12, 1864, at or near the town of Cynthiana, in the state of Kentucky, while under command of Colonel Clark, and engaged in battle with the Rebels, under Rebel Morgan, was taken prisoner by the Rebels and made to march in double quick for two days and nights without food or drink. Since which time he has been entirely unable for any kind of manual labor and although he remained with the regiment until muster out, he never was able for duty any more"
A note in the Journal of his father states that he had a son Nathan Baker, b. 15 Jan 1833 by a woman named Lottie Baker.
Actually I believe that Robert married a second time - to a Hettie, by whom he several more children.
1850 Census. Kentucky Twp, Owsley, KY, Hh 79 - on the same page with his sister Zelphia & brother John H.
Robert Baker was 50. Hettia Baker, age 32
Robert 19. Nathan 17. George 13. Lucindia 11.
The Journal of Robert Julius Baker records a Nathan Baker, b. 14 Jan 1833, but says she was born by a "Lottie" Baker.
