W. Y. Mims applied for his Confederate pension on 2 Jan 1914. He was over the age of 70, born Autauga Coun and would depend solely the pension for his support. J. B. Mims made his mark that he had known W. Y. for 40 years and knew him to be over age 70. Madison Popwell also certified that he had known him for 60 years.
He had applied earlier, approved by the Board of Examiners on 13 Aug 1907. In May he had presented a list of his assets. He owned no land. Had 2 steers, 2 cows, 2 calves, 5 hogs, 1 gun and a few household goods - $115.00.
The earlier application stated he was a resident of Chilton Co. He had served as a Private in Company A of the 12th Alabama and had enlisted on 31 May 1863 at Montgomery. He was in prison at the close of the war at Lookout Mtn. He is now age 63 and has chronic rheumatism and enlarged joints. He signed with his mark. Witness was Reuben Popwell,
He was apparently rejected for claiming to be over 70 at an earlier time - there is a card dated 26 Nov 1912 that notes "affiant in original application dated May 31st 1907 gives his age at 63 hence he cannot be 70 now" By 1914, he was 70, or very close to it.

Death record states his parents were George Mims and Mrs. George Mims; spouse not given. Buried Maple Springs Cemetery.
