James Hamilton Seymour

(1836 - )

Note: There may be something very wrong with this tree. This marriage in Virginia seems highly unlikely given that a son of James Seymour & Margaret Hamilton would have been living in Grainger Co, TN. The only hint I could find elsewhere online was that the Hursts were from Shenandoah - and that Fannie, daughter of Hiram, was married to James H. Seymore, 29 Mar 1854 - from "Hursts of Shenandoah" by J. C. Hurst. Another place suggests that Hiram Hurst's wife was Margaret Mary "Polly" Thompson. The database indicating I had kinship to this person lists different parents for Fannie - a Pryor L. Hurst & Rebecca McBee.

Fannie is said to be in the 1850 census with Hiram Hurst. There is an entry in Claiborne Co, TN
Hiram Hurst, 58, Clergyman, b. VA. Mary Hurst, 55, b. TN
Mary J. Hurst, 22. Fanny Hurst, 20. Nathan S. McD. Hurst, 14. Mahlon Hurst, 6. Daniel Hurst, age 3 [the last two boys may be grandsons...]

It could be that the marriage is the problem - coupled with mis-identifying Fannie Hurst. However, neither of these Fannys seems to be the right age.
Pryor L. Hurst said to be born 1822, Lone Mountain, Claiborne, TN - and died there in 1899. His marriage to Rebecca McBee recorded in Claiborne Co, 24 Jul 1840 (TN State Marriages). Rebecca, born 1823.
In 1850, Prior L. Hurst was age 28. Rebecca 27, both born in TN
Emily , 8, b. TN
James 6 and Fanny - age 3 and born in Missouri
Alexander,2. Isaac, age 2 months, b. TN
Pryor then is said to have married Louisa Pittman, 11 Feb 1852 (TN State Marriages) - but this seems to have been a different man since Rebecca is still with Pryor in 1860
1860 Census does not list Fanny at all, even thought she would have been only about 13.
Prior L. Hurst, 38. Rebecca, 37.
all the family listed as b. Tennessee
James 17. Alexander 12. Isaac 11. Louisa 6. Franklin 4. William 2. Cordelia, 9 months.

Children of James and Fanny said to be the following - no census info cited
William B., b. 1854
Christopher Columbus, 1855-1898
Mary Jane, b. 1857
Minerva A. - 1859-1948
Margaret L., 1861-1934
Martha C. - 1863-1942

I have been unable to find any of the family in 1860.

1870 Census. Union Co TN, Hh 132
Fanney Semore, age 40 [b. 1830 - not 1840, and does match dau of Hiram]
William 19. Christofer C. 15. Mary J. 13. Manery A. 11. Margret L. 9. Martha C. 8.
