Rites Here Tomorrow For Victims of Flood
Memorial services for Floyd Francis Mayberry, 67, and funeral services for his wife, Ann Bell Mayberry, 61, will be at 10 am tomorrow in Green Acres Mortuary, 401 N. Hayden, Scottsdale.
The couple, who resided at 1905 N. 31st Place, drowned in a flash flood last Friday [August 18th] at Apache Lake. The body of Mr. Mayberry has not been found.
Mr. Mayberry was a self-employed landscape gardener. Born in Magazine, Ark., he moved to Phoenix 30 years ago. His survivors include a son, Claude, of Onario, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Ballard of Orangevale, Calif.; eight half-brothers and three half-sisters, all out of state; and four grandchildren.
In addition to her two children, Mrs. Mayberry is survived by her father W. L. Lewis of Pasadena, Okla.; and two brothers and three sisters out of state.
Friends may call after 2 pm today in the mortuary. Burial for Mrs. Mayberry will be in Green Acres Cemetery.

On the evening of August 18, a high-intensity thunderstorm caused flash flooding in Crabtree and Davis Washes, other small tributaries to Apache Lake and tributaries to Canyon Lake. The flood in Craabtree Wash reportedly occurred in two waves, the second of which was about 6 feet high. Several persons who were camping and picnicking at the mouth of the wash prior to the flood were swept into Apache Lake - 3 were drowned, and 16 were injured. Three cars were washed into the lake, eight other vehicles were inundated, and a large amount of camping gear destroyed....
