From the Newport [Vermillion Co., IN] Hoosier State newspaper of 11 January 1888:
"Just as we went to press last week a rumor reached us that James L. Wishard had died at Terre Haute. He was taken ill with pneumonia and died in a few days. He was an ex-union soldier, having served his country in the 62nd IL Volunteers. He was born in Helt Township October 20, 1842. He leaves a wife and 7 children. The burial will take place in Spangler Cemetery."
