JAMES RANDOLPH (son of Henry Randolph) Born ca 1750 Albemarle County, Virginia. Married Sarah Gentry, daughter of Robert and Judith (Joyner) Gentry in either Virginia or North Carolina 1775-6.
Judith Joyner was the daughter of Phillip (died 1762 Albemarle County) and Elizabeth Joyner. Sarah's sister, Mary, married as his first wife Duke Kimbrough, a Baptist minister
The first record we have of James was as a charter member of the Albemarle Baptist Church. January 9, 1773, James, together with others in his family, the Gentrys (his future in-laws), Henry and Dorothy (his sister) Haggard, and others, were charter members of the Albemarle Baptist Church.
In June, 1775, he was ex-communicated for using the Lord's name in vain. That same year, Charles and Elizabeth Gentry were granted a dismissal from the Baptist Church.
James served in the Revolutionary War as did Robert and Charles Gentry, his father-in-law and brother-in-law, sometime between 1776 and 1783. Because of his service, on October 13, 1783, he was granted 302 acres of land on the Big Limestone, Washington County, NC, adjoining his brother Thomas who had apparently moved there before him. That same year Robert Gentry (his father-in-law), Alexander Outlaw, Joseph Copeland and James Randolph were shown as being among the first settlers of the area.
From 1778 through 1783, James is shown on the Washington, County, N.C. Tax List, this area
later to become Jefferson County, Tenn..
The French Broad Baptist Church, Dandridge, Jefferson County, TN was organized March 25, 1786. The original members included James Randolph, Henry Haggard, Charles Gentry, Tabitha and Elizabeth Gentry, Dolly Haggard, Joseph and Sarah Witt, Catron McGirk, and Jonathan Mulkey.
In 1787 a James Randolph received a grant of 600 acres of land in Greene county, TN, but more
research needs to be done to find out if it was this James. In 1794 James was one of the delgates to the Baptist Church Association. James died in 1794 leaving a Will dated October 29 and a sizeable estate. After his death, his wife, Sarah Gentry Randolph, married (2) James McGirk and they had no children.

WILL: Will of James Randolph, Jefferson County, TN 1794
In the year of our Lord, One thousand seven hundred ninety four. In the name of God, Amen. I James Randolph of the County of Jefferson and Territory of the United State South of the river Ohio, being very sick and weak in body, but of perfect mind and memory, Thanks be unto God, Calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, I do make and ordain this my last will and testament. That is to say principally, and first of all, I give and recommend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it; and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in a decent and Christian burial at the discretion of my executors, nothing doubting but the general resurection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touch such worldly Estate Wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life. I give and devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. First I give and bequeath unto Sarah my beloved wife one Negro Wench Dincor, and one feather bed and furniture, and one grey horse and the cows and claves, and one pewter dish, and eight pewter plates, and one big basin and two trunks and two pails and one oven, and two saws and one table, and a coffee mill and tea yeas and four delf plaits and one looking glass. All this I leave to my wife her life in this world and then divided equal among my children. Also I give to my well beloved son Henry one Negro boy named Joe one young horse and one sow. This being my last will and testament to him. Also I do give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Lucy one Mulatto girl named Easter and one half dozen pewter plates, and one bason and one pewter dish. This I also give to my beloved son Robert one hundred acres of land lying on tennessee river, two sows and one mare. This I also give to my beloved son John one hundred acres of land lying on the Tennessee joining the same tract and two sows. This also leaving Elizabeth and Sarah and Mary two negro girls and two feather beds and furniture. This to be equally divided between the three. This also the Negro boy named Ben. and the land that I now live on is to be sold for a tract of land for the family use, and at my wifes decease the land to be sold and the child that she is now with is to have an equal portion with the rest of the children and I do utterly disallow, revoke and disannul all and every other former testments, wills, legacies, bequeaths and executors by me in any ways before named, willed and bequeathed, ratifying and confirming this, and no other, to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand seal this 29th day of Oct in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred ninety four. Signed, sealed and
published, pronounced and declared by the same James Randolph as his last will and testament in the presence of us, who in his presence, and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names and I do appoint my wife Sarah, Robert Gentry, Bartlett Gentry executors. s/s.
