James H. Akin was born 19 Jan 1794, New York, died 30 Jan 1849 at Pittstown, Renessalaer Co, NY. He was the son of Benjamin Akin and Sarah Holloway. Grandparents said to be James Akin & Patience Howard; great-grandparents, David Akin and Sarah Allen. He and his mother both buried Akins Point Cemetery, Pittstown.

James Akin of Pittstown, Rensselaer. First pay all of honest debts. To beloved wife Hannah sole control, use & occupancy & profits from farm which I now live on in Pittstown, part of lot #4 in Hoosick patent & ten acre Woods lot, part of the original lot #47 in Hoosick patent known in the subdivision as part of lot #10, during the time she remains my widow. The 10 acres to be surveyed at north end of the woods lot. All of household furniture, best two horse wagon and best one horse wagon & best two horse harness, the best pair of horses, two cows to choose out of my flock; all provisions for family use. Third. Executors to sell the remaining part of wood lot for best price and sell my ?nissmoose farms within one year after my decease. Fourth to sons Justis H. Akin 2nd & son Elihu G. Akin and son Nathan G. Akin and son Delafqyette Akin and to daughter Sarah Caroline Akin and to daughter Patience C. Akin all moneys from the sale of the two lots above mentioned to be equally divided among them. Fifth: to Angeline Shearman daughter, $300 to be paid out of money from sale of my personal property. Sixth: son James Akins Junr I give the note for $500 which I now hold against him. Seventh. To daughter Abigail Akin and daughter Priscilla Akin and daughter Deborah Akin and daughter Hannah Akin, the sum of $500 each to be paid out of money from sale of my personal property. If there is lacking it is to be paid to them by my son Edward Akin out of the property which I give to him. And to my four last named daughters a home & support during the time they remain single. Eight: unto my tow daughter Sarah Caroline Akin & Patience Akin, a home & support during the time they remain single provided they pay to their mother the interest of $500 during her lifetime unless they choose to leave. Ninth: My Executors pay the $000 to Abigail, Priscilla, Deborah & Hannah in one after the decease of my if they are of age of 21 and if not they receive their legacy when they reach age 21. If they have support of my wife, they will pay the interest of the $500 to my wife as long as they stay. Tenth: If my wife is willing, my son Edward Akin shall work the farm to the halves after he becomes 21. Eleventh: To son Edward Akin, the farm I now live on after the decease of my wife. He is to give my daughters Sarah Caroline, Patience, Abigail, Priscilla, Deborah & Hannah a home and support on said farm as long as they remain singles. 12th: if any of the heirs bring account or charge against my estate he shall forfeit his share and have nothing – his share divided among the rest. 13th. Elihu G. Akin and Justus H. Akin, Nathan Akin and Levi Sherman my son-in-law and James Akin, Executors to this last Will. 15th (no 14th): My Executors give me a decent funeral and pay expense out of my estate. 23 Sept 1848.
