Joseph Balcom

Joseph Balcom owned land in New Sherborn and Mendon [Massachusetts] and was a town officer in Mendon, 1717. His will written 1732; he died the next year.
He was the son of Alexander Balcom, probably born in England. Alexander's wife was Jane Holbrook - she was the 2nd marriage; name of the first wife is unknown.
Alexander was recorded as an inhabitant of Portsmouth, RI in 1664. That year he puchased Nathan Payne's interest in a tract of land about 12 miles north of Providence.
Named in Alexander's will dated 20 Nov 1702. Oldest son, Alexander, 2 sh as he had already received his inheritance. Kaththarine Jencks, eldest daughter. Sarah Shelding [Sheldon], second daughter. John, second son, after his and wife's decease - the dwelling house and all lands within the town of Providence. Freegift, third son, 2 sh with what he has already receive. Five younger children: Joseph, Hannah, Saml, Deborah, and Lydia to divide the remainder. Wife Jane and John to be Executors. Joseph Jencks Junr and James Brown to be overseers of the will.
Presented in court 31 May 1711 - Alexander died 4 May 1711.
