John Angell

Said to have had no children. The Samuel Willett Comstock manuscript papers say that he was born 1778 and that Abby Comstock was his 2nd wife. SWC notes the date was from an Angell Genealogy.

Genealogy of the Descendants of Thomas Angell, who Settled in Providence, 1636, by Avery F. Angell, 1872, is found on Ancestry.com and traces this John's lineage. He was a house carpenter, living first in Smithfield, and then North Providence. His first wife, Cynthia Angell, was mother of all his children. The children are listed as: Amelia who m. Joseph Bowen, Avis who died young, Eliza m. Amasa Lapham, Gideon died young, Mary died at age 20, Manning Hope m. Harriet Arnold and (2) Rebecca Page, and Amey m. Benjamin Waterman.

In 1810, there were four John Angells in Providence, three listed on the same page. They all had children in the household.

In 1820, there had also been four John Angells. Only one without children living in North Providence. Age was 26-45. The female in the household was the same age.

1830 Providence, Rhode Island. There were four John Angells. The one listed as John Angell, 3rd had no children and lived in Smithfield. He was aged 50-60. Apparent spouse was aged 40-50.

1840 Smithfield, Rhode Island. Three John Angells. One was age 60-70 with an apparent spouse of the same age. There was also a younger couple - a male age 40-50 and a female age 15-20. The other two John Angells had several children at home.
