Elijah Sprague
(10 Mar 1818 - 31 Jan 1897)
"Sprague Families in America", by Dr. Warren Vincent Sprague, page 279.
Elijah Sprague occupied the stone house built by his father in 1800. O him, the Marietta Daily Register, February 2, 1897 said: "Elijah Sprague was no idle dreamer. His life has been an open book before all people. With a reserve force of physical and nervous eneryg, he was quick to act, determined, and courageous. He was an arbiter in matters of dispute to all his neighbors; impartial, firm, steadfast, honest. His early years were spent among the activities incident to those days. He was an athlete, trained with close contact to those who pushed the keel-boat through the riffles, followed the chase of the deer, felled the forest timber, and followed the wooden mould-bourd plow."
Elijah and Henrietta had five children. After her death, he married Lydia A. Sayles, 6 Aug 1850, and had 8 more children.
