George Butler Marble’s older brother was Ferdinand Emory Marble who married Martha Jane Wages in Hastings, Barry County, Michigan on February 29, 1876 almost two years prior to Duane Pierce Marble’s birth.
Ferdinand and Martha Jane Marble had two children, whom both died in infancy. The son, James Henry Marble born January 7, 1877 died Christmas Day, December 1877 the same date of Duane Pierce Marble’s birth (What are the odds for that to happen?). James Henry Marble is buried at Riverside Cemetery, Hastings, Barry County, Michigan.
Since 1850; Step father (grandfather), Henry Duane Pierce started writing a personal diary when he was nineteen years old. The diary covers 56 years from 1850 to 1906 the year of Duane Pierce's death. Henry Duane Pierce wrote thoroughly about many subjects, he did not reveal the secret about Duane Pierce Marble’s birth, Duane Pierce Marble was named after his step grandfather, Henry Duane Pierce.
THE THEORY ABOUT DUANE PIERCE MARBLE’S CHRISTMAS BIRTH
Victor Roman believes that great great great grandmother Anna Loveridge Drake had wanted to keep the birth of Duane Pierce Marble to her youngest son, George Butler Marble, (whom was 16 years old), a secret. There was no record of George B. Marble marrying at such a young age. It is believed that the birth may have resulted from a teenage pregnancy out of wedlock. Also, the secret was so well kept amongst relatives, that Victor further theorizes that the mother may have been a cousin, and perhaps a Wages. I, Brad Marble told Victor, there is no use tracing the Wages Lineage, and his reply was, “That is not necessarily true”.
So, since Anna Loveridge Drake Marble Pierce’s son, Ferdinand Emory Marble and his wife, Martha Jane Wages had lost an infant son in December 1877, James Henry; the inconvenient birth of George Butler Marble’s infant son became a convenient Christmas present to Ferdinand and Martha, a present named, Duane Pierce Marble.
On October 1, 1982, the surviving children of Duane Pierce Marble learned of the Barry County Birth Certificate when George and Marion Marble’s son, Michael Alan Marble went to Hastings Michigan to obtain a certified copy of Duane Pierce Marble’s birth record. In a letter to George’s brother, Emory Marble, George states that this did not affect the feeling of love and affection they had towards their grandparents, the adoptive parents of Duane Pierce Marble, Ferdinand Emory Marble and Martha Jane Wages.
