Moses Spencer

Served in the Revolution as a private in Capt James Spencer's Company. A Pay Roll card posted on the website also shows him as being in Capt. H. Young's Company of the 5th Virginia Regt. He filed for his pension.

His first wife was Mary Ann Arnold, who he married 20 Nov 1769 in Middletown, Middlesex Co, CT.

Moses Spencer was a resident of Charlotte Co., Va when he enlisted for service in the Revolution on 10 Feb 1778. He was honorably discharged on 16 Feb 1779 in Middlebrook, NJ.It is assumed that his first wife died by 1779, he was married to Elizabeth Tinsley 20 Nov. 1779. Moses and Elizabeth Spencer left Virginia, stopped in North Carolina for a short while then migrated on to the Pendleton District of South Carolina.His daughter, Tabitha, was born 9 Feb 1781 in the Pendleton District of South Carolina and soon after her birth Moses Spencer joined as a volunteer in the army that fought the battle of Guilford Courthouse 16 March 1781. He moved to Mercer Co., KY by 1796. By 1802 he had moved to Barren Co., KY and by 1819 he moved to Lawrence Co., TN. He died in either Lawrence or Maury Co., TN.Note: The American Genealogist, Volumes 27-32 is said to be a good source for Spencer Family info.
