Johannes and Hebel had 16 children, born from 1631 to 1657. When his first son was christened in 1631, Johannes was a teacher at Weidenau, and he continued to hold this position until 1635, while the Protestants dominated Germany.
In 1632, he owned a small interest in the Schneppenkauten Hammer in Weidenau, Germany, but had sold his share by 1653. His family was closely connected to the iron industry in Weidenau, as four of his sons were admitted to the Guild of Smelterers and Hammersmiths.
