Individual Details
John Whipple
(1596 - 30 Jun 1669)
Probably came to America between 1636 and 1638. Member of the Congregational Church of Ipswich, Massachusetts.
Although his records have often been confused with those of John Whipple who lived in Providence, Rhode Island, they are definitely two very different men living in two different places. John Whipple of Rhode Island was not born until 1617 - has no records in Bocking - and never lived in Ipswich, although he did reside in Dorchester prior to moving to Providence.
It would seem they arrived in the colony at about the same time. John Whipple of Rhode Island was first found in Dorchester on 2 Jan 1637/8 when he was granted eight acres in Dorchester near the mill. John Whipple of Ipswich, along with his brother Matthew received a joint grant of approximately 200 acres in 1638.
