Individual Details
Richard Plantagent [York] III, King of England (26 Jun 1483-1485)
(2 Oct 1452 - 22 Aug 1485)
Richard died in battle at Bosworth Field, the decisive battle of the War of the Roses. He was the last king of the House of York and the last of the Plantagents.
He was named Lord Protector for the son of his brother Edward IV, the 12-year-old King Edward V. When the new king travelled to London, Richard met him and escorted him to London where he was lodged in the Tower. Edward V's younger brother, Richard join him there. Before the young king could be crowned, their mother's marriage to their father was declared invalid, making her children ineligible for the throne. Richard III was crowned on 6 July, 1483. The young princes were not seen again after August - presumably murdered.
