Margaret Queen of Scotland, Saint

(Ca 1045 - 16 Nov 1093)

Margaret was an English princess of the House of Wessex, born in exile in Hungary. Her family had returned to England but fled to Scotland following the Norman conquest in 1066. She married Malcolm III, King of Scotland by 1070. She was the mother of three Kings of Scotland. She is said to have died at Edinburgh Castle, just days after receiving the news of her husband's death in battle. In 1250, she was canonised by Pope Innocent IV and is Scotland's only royal Saint.
