Anthony Comstock

Anthony married on 25 Jan 1871 to Margaret Hamilton. They had no children. He served in the Civil War. Anthony was Secretary of the Society for the Suppression of Vice and a noted reformer.

In 1873 he influenced Congress to pass the Comstock Law which made illegal the delivery by US mail, or other modes of transportaion any "obscene, lewd or Lascivious" material and prohibiting any production of publication of information pertaining to the procurement of abortion, the prevention of conception and the prevention of veneral disease.
