Wilmot Poyntz

(By 1487 - 15 Apr 1558)

Wilmot was the widow Hyllinge, when she married Thomas Hext. In many databases she is found as a daughter of Humphrey Poyntz and Elizabeth Pollard who was daughter and sole heir of Richard Pollard. The Poyntz family can be traced directly back to Sir Hugh Poyntz, who died 1220, and whose wife Hawise was a daughter of William Malet, one of the Magna Carta barons.

I have found at least one lineage that places Wilmot as a granddaughter, rather than daughter, of Humphrey Poyntz and Elizabeth Pollard through a son William, d. before 1515. This lineage actually works better time wise.

Following William Poyntz' death, his two daughters, including Wilmot, sued their uncle, Nicholas Poyntz, in Chancery for possession Poyntz family property. An abstract of the Chancery suit is included in the published Poyntz Genealogy. The inquisition taken at her death shows that she was in possession of property which she inherited as co-heiress to her grandfather, Humphrey Poyntz.

William Poyntz, son of Humphrey Poyntz and Elizabeth Pollard was born about 1464, Langley, Devonshire, England. He died prior to 1515. There is no wife's name suggested.
He is mentioned in his father Inquisition Post Mortem. He is NOT mentioned as a son of Humphrey in "Burke's Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Landed Gentry."
