Levi Hiatt was born on 06 November 1818 at Chillicothe, Highland County, Ohio, to William Hiatt and Jemima Lundy. When Levi was 17, his father and mother moved to Henry County, Indiana, after residing for a time in Fayette County, Ohio.10
Ann Adamson was born on 10 September 1821 at an undisclosed place in North Carolina to John Adamson and Mary Hammer. There is no information on how or when she migrated westward.
Levi and Ann married on 28 July 1838 in Henry County, Indiana. While living there, their first five children were born.
In 1846 Levi and Ann moved their family into central Indiana to Green Township, Grant County, Indiana, in the vicinity of Rigdon. Tradition has it that their family was one of the first to settle in Green Township, and Jacob, their sixth child was said to be the first white child born in Green Township. In fact, Levi entered the first land from the Government on 15 October 1847 for 144.69 acres in Section No. 1, Township No. 22. He was issued a Government Patent for this property on 01 February 1849 by the United States General Land Office and signed by President James K. Polk.12
Levi built a round-pole house as their residence on this new homestead. The location of this home was one-quarter mile west of Rigdon in Green Township, Grant County, just on the north side of the southern county line.
During the next fourteen years, eight more children were born. Of their fourteen children, all but three grew to maturity. Sometime during this period, before 1863, Levi and Ann moved their family to another farm located one-half mile north of the original homestead.
Various members of Levi Hiatt’s family were active in their churches. Oliver Hiatt and his wife, Amelia, were charter members of the Harmony Christian Church located in Leisure, Indiana, about 6 miles west of Rigdon in Madison County. This church was organized 30 May 1885.13 Similarly, several of Jacob and Mollie Behymer Hiatt's children are recorded in history as influential in the Rigdon Methodist Church.14 This is interesting in that it is only a generation since the Hiatts were staunch Quakers. Although no information is available, it may be that Levi and Ann were members of the Christian Church since their son (Walter) and daughter-in-law (Susie) were active there.
Levi died 27 April 1874 and Ann died 27 April 1879. They were living on their farm in Green Township at the times of death, and both are buried in the Rigdon Cemetery, Boon Township, Madison County, Indiana.
