Andrew J. Wright served in the Confederate Army, Civil War, as a private in Co. G, 25th Regt. He enlisted in April 1863 at Daulton, GA and was paroled on the 15th of May 1865 at Camp Douglas, IL. He was wounded at Chickamauga, TN in the left ankle joint. A. J. Wright, Private, from Co G, 25th AL Regit is listed as imprisoned on 15 Dec 1864 at Nashville, TN; received at Military Prison, Louisville, KY and discharged from Camp Douglas, 20 Dec 1864.
12 Aug 1889. Coosa Co, AL. Application of Andrew J. Wright, Private in
Co G, 25th Regt, Alabama. While in discharge of his duty on 25th May 1864 at New Hope Church in Georgia he was wounded - Shot in the left ankle, also by running against a iron Rod which had been shot into a tree. In his incapable of making a livelihood by labor. signed: A. J. Wright.
9 Jul 1891. Coosa Co, AL. Application for pensions states that he was a Private in Co G of the 25th Regiment of Alabama Volunteers and that on 25th May of 1864 at New Hope Church in Georgia he was wounded in the left ankle. He is farmer but now incapable of making a livelihood by labor.
18 Feb 1892. Coosa Co, AL. Application for pensions states that he was a Private in Co G of the 25th Regiment of Alabama Volunteers and that in 1864 at New Hope Church in Georgia he was wounded in the left ankle. He was a farmer.
16 Jan 1894. Chilton Co, AL. Application again states in was a Private in Co G of 25th Regist, Ala. Vol. and on the 25th of May, 1864 at New Hope Church in GA, he was wounded in the left ankle. Signed: A. J. Wright. Examined and recommended for pension on 9 May 1895.
2 Jun 1896 Chilton Co, AL. Makes application. Same service but adds he was "hit with a grape shot in the left ankle". Signed: A. J. Wright. Approved 2 Jun 1896
3 Feb 1897. Chilton Co, AL. Makes application. States he has 40 acres of land, one ox and 1 wagon. Unable to earn a livelihood due to old age. Signed: A. J. Wright. Approved by Board of Examiners, 30 Jun 1897l
2 May 1899. Chilton Co, AL. His application for Pension states he also has left inguinal hernia and unable to make a living on account of old age and defective vision. He was 71. Post Office at Kinchen. He owned no property of the value of $400, had no annual income as much as $400 and could depend on no children for his support. Signed with his mark. W. L. Lowery and G. W. Walker testified that he did serve as stated. Schedule of Property shows 4 acres of land in Chilton Co worth $80. 2 cows worth $15. Household furniture worth $15. Farming tools worth $5.
25 Feb 1907. A. J. Wright enlisted as a Private, Co H, 4th GA Regt in 1862 at Newnan, GA and was discharged 4 Sep 1865. He is 81 years of age and cannot make a living by manual labor because of old age and general disability. Post office is Cullman, AL. Signed: A. J. Wright. Schedule of Property lists no land, 1 blind horse worth $40, household furniture worth $40.
9 Mar 1907. M. J. Wright swore personal acquantance with A. J. Wright at Cullman.
6 Aug 1907. Already on Roll. Applicant A. J. Wright to be placed on Pension Rolls in 1st Class on account of Age. Granted 13 Aug 1907.
7 Sept 1907. Cullman Co. Before R. I. Burke, Judge of Probate, Andrew Jackson Wright sworn: he is now drawing a pension from the State of 'Alabama under the Fourth class, and being over eighty years of age, makes affidavit to be placed in first class, under the act of the Legislature, 6 Aug 1907. He was born on the 4th day of Feb 1826 in Courts Co, GA.
Handwritten note to the State Auditor dated 6-18-18 requests his pention (sic) check be sent to Cullman in place of Double Springs, AL as he is now at Cullman. Signed: A. J. Wright.
