Individual Details

Thomas Thorpe

( - 1818)

Thomas is said to have come from Albemarle Co VA to Madison Co KY before 1794. In July of 1794, Robert Moore and Mary his wife sold him land on the waters of Otter Creek. Elijah Bennett and Patsy his wife sold him land on Muddy Creek, and in May of 1812, John Moore Sr. sold him another 100 acres on Muddy Creek.

Thomas's will was dated 18 Mar 1818 and probate was the following July 6th. His wife Eleanor was sole devisee and executrix of the will.

I have seen that Eleanor married James W. Smith on 24 Aug 1818, but I believe that was her daughter of the same name because Eleanor Thorp, mother of the bride gave her consent, as did Charles Smith father of the groom. The necessity for permission would indicate both bride and groom were under legal age. The bondsman was Thomas Thorp, son of one Eleanor, brother of the other.
