Rufus Roddy Moore

R. R. said to have been in Chamber's Battalion, CSA. Discharge paperwork states he was released because of age. Family tradition states that he was a captain and discharged to buy horses for the Army. Said to have had a Mason emblem on his tombstone, but it is no longer visible if it was ever there. He is buried Cottonwood Cemetery. Grave marker is pictured on FindAGrave and has the IOOF marker for the Oddfellows. The stone is worn and has been read as "R. A. Moore".

I did find on Ancestry that Chambers Battalion was a Reserves Corps, Texas, CSA.
R. R. Moore listed as a Private in Company E.

Fannin Co DB 1, p. 598 R. R. Moore and Jane Moore his wife for $400 paid by William F. Haden do sell a tract in Fannin Co about 22 miles from Bonham on waters of the North Sulphur by virtue of the bounty of Jonathan T. Hobbs. Stake center of Bourlands Creek; NW corner of S. F. Montgomery's tract of 44 acres out of the Hobbs survey, NE corner of tract deeded to W. F. Haden out of said Hobbs survey; with Hadens East boundary line, north line of Alexander Maxwell Survey, down the middle of the channel of Bourland's creek. 55 acres. 17 Feb 1871 (or 1877). Signed: R. R. Moore, Jane (x) Moore. Proved the same day by Moores - although the date could be 17 Feb 1877 - based on surrounding entries. Rec. Feb 19 1877
