James Wesley Bates, said born 9 Aug 1823, died 12 Mar 1912, buried Rose Hill Cemetery, Maury Co TN. FindAGrave does show these dates and state that he was a Mexican War Soldier. He is said to have had applied for a pension at age 63. This first listing as him as "J.W. Bates". There is a second listing on FindAGrave without the dates so perhaps they are not actually on the marker. The second listing appears to have a error in his name.
Death Notice:
"John" Wesley Bates, "89, died early Tuesday at home on Santa Fe Pike; buried at Rose Hill Cemetery; wife, three sons, 4 daughters survive; last survivor of Mexican War in Maury County."
His name was definitely James; was he named for his grandfather?

James Wesley said to have married Nancy Elizabeth Paul 22 May 1849 in Maury Co. She was born 1 Nov 1830 and died 23 Feb 1859. She is with him in the 1850 Census.

He married second Helen McDowell, 5 or 6 Jan of 1860, Marshall Co, TN. She died on 26 Aug of the same year. She was living in his household as a 10-year-old in 1850.

James then married 3 Jan 1861 to Sarah Isabelle Cooper. She was born 10 Jul 1843, died 23 May 1922. FindAGrave note says that she was the daughter of Amos Cooper of NC and Nancy Haddley of GA. She is buried with James at Rose Hill Cemetery.
