(30 Jan 1883 - 26 Dec 1970)

Author of:
A History and Genealogy of the Comstock Family in America, (Los Angeles, CA: The Commonwealth Press, Inc., 1949)
He was a compiler, not necessarily a researcher. His manuscript collection is at NEHGS in Boston. Comstock written in 1905 and 1907, and the manuscript collection of Samuel Willett Comstock which also includes that of Noah D. Comstock, which is also at NEHGS.

Comstock married Caroline Elizabeth Townsend, 10 Sep 1905, William's Bay, Walworth County, Wisconsin. They moved to California about 1908, living first in Santa Rose, moving to Santa Barbara two years later. In 1915, he was licensed to practice Medicine and Surgery in California. He accepted the Assistant Directorship of the Southwest Museum in Los Angeles in 1919 and became Director from 1921-1926. He then became director of the Los Angels Museum. Among other credentials, he was a Fellow of the Royal Entomological [pertaining to the study of insects] Society of London.

John A. Comstock and Nellie had three children. Comstock divorced Caroline and married Dr. Caroline (Sult) Lord, 11 Feb 1921, in Riverside, California. She died in 1926 and he married a third time to Ruth Mary Gard, 28 Mar 1928.
