Ewing had apparently been married before. He mentioned a child in his court testimony after the murders of Minerva Wallace & J. E. Comstock.

Possibly J. H. Ewing in 1860, although some distance from Cedar Co. He was also on the Slave Schedule with six slaves, four of whom were children.

License to marry Frances Leekinzy, both of Jerico in Cedar County, on 28 Apr 1897 - they married the next day, by J. A. Lowe, Minister of the Gospel.
