Caleb married first, Patience Brown, born at Smithfield 1729, daughter of William Brown and Patience Arnold. They were first cousins once removed. They married at Smithfield, 26 Jan 1745.

Caleb served as a corporal in Col. Robert Elliot's Regt in the Revolution. He, his eight sons, and three sons-in-law may all have served - according to family tradition - making an even dozen patriots.
