John was born the 11d 8m [Oct] 1747. He was the son of Jesse Hinshaw, b. 25 Nov 1720, County Tyron, Ireland, d. 29 Apr 1797, Orange Co, NC - buried Cane Creek Cemetery and Abigail Marshill, b. ca 1721, d. 18 Mar 1806, the daughter of Benjamin Marshill & Ruth Bell. [Although Abigail's parents were not traced on "The Quaker Collection" website, other Marshills that married into the Hindshaw family were also from Ireland.

John and Ruth Pike were married at the New Garden Monthly Meeting, 1776.

After the death of Ruth in Dec of 1795, John married Mrs. Ann Haisley Philips, widow of John Philips; they were married at Deep River which was set off from New Garden in 1778. No children of that marriage.
