Individual Details

John W. Stoy

(May 1801 - May 1882)

John is said to have about age four when his family moved to St. Louis - then a small French-speaking village.

The dates of John W. Stoy's marriages are estimated based on the age of the first known child of the marriages. John and Elizabeth are said to have four children, only William was surviving when the Goodspeed bio was written, just prior to 1889.

The bio of William M. Stoy, son of John and Elizabeth lists six children for John and Hariiet Cliften, but the youngest is named "James". In the 1860 census there is a youngest daughter named Minerva, but no young James. It is possible there was a son of that name who died young, but the children are spaced so evenly, I doubt that there was a James.
