Lawrence Virgil Wilson passed away after a lengthy illness on May 25, 1962. He had been a merchant in Hominy since 1912 and was one of the owners of the Pioneer Store since 1919. Lawrence was born Jan 17, 1891 at Donnellson, Illiois, the son of Rev. and Mrs. William H. Wilson. Rev. W. H. Wilson was the first installed minister of the First Presbyterian Church in Hominy, serving from 1912 until 1924.
Lawrence was active in church and civic work in Hominy for 50 years. He served in the United States Navy during World War I. He was a charter member of Blackwell-Frazier Post 142 of the American Legion and had served as Post Commander and as District Commander of the First District.
He was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir for 50 years. He was active in Boy Scout work for many years and received the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to boyhood. He was a 32 Degree Mason and Past Master of the Blue Lodge. He was a member of the Hominy Kiwanis Club and was a past president of that organization.
Lawrence married Bertie Pattison on February 25, 1919, in Hominy. He is survived by his wife of the home, one son, Lawrence V. Wilson, Jr., Bartlesville; one daughter, Nancy W. Steen, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; one sister, Mrs. D. L. Gray, Little Rock; two brothers, Kenneth T. Wilson, Little Rock and William P. Wilson, Detroit; two grandsons and one granddaughter.
