Jo Frances Fulcher (Hunter) Frazier
Jo Frances was born on December 20, 1928 to Dr. And Mrs. Joseph Fulcher in Tulsa, OK. She went home to her Lord on September 2, 2014.
Jo was born and raised in Tulsa and attended local schools. She was raised by two parents who stressed the importance of education. Jo Studied English Literature at Duke University and was a walking institution of knowledge. Her bank of facts on history and the classic novels was more than impressive. You could throw out almost any topic and Jo was well versed in the details.
Jo married Chet Frazier (a local Tulsa boy) on July 19,1950. She was a stay at home mom of the 1950's to their three children David, Linda and Susie. The family traveled the world through Chet's job with Shell Oil Co. From the pyramids in Egypt to the jungles of Indonesia, mom made sure our socks were white and our outfits were pressed and clean. June Cleaver had nothing on our mom.
Jo faced some very difficult personal issues in the 1960's and 70's. In spite of her tribulations the family remained a tight and loving unit. We learned the meaning of unconditional love.
Chet and Jo enjoyed many years together. They were adventurous and shared a passion for nature. Jo's love of animals (except cats because they hurt birds) was famous. But not as famous as her quite liberal, at least for Bakersfield, political views. It was understood when Jo entered Pizazz for her nail appointments during the Clinton years, nobody brought up politics. Mark Llamas and Sandy Valpredo teased her and she loved it.
Chet and Jo made quite a trek on their faith journey. They started out as Presbyterians, converting to Episcopalian and finally to Catholicism. When Jo became a Catholic her faith became first and foremost in her life. She began a mission of teaching young catholic children about the saints. She wrote a series of books that she donated to catholic schools. She went up and down the valley speaking to the children and using her books to make the learning fun.
Jo was born with a philanthropic heart. She had many organizations that she loved and supported. Among them were- Wolf Haven, Int., Nature Conservancy, and The World Wildlife Fund. And of course the NDC.
Anyone who knew Jo knew how scrappy she was. She never hesitated to give her opinion and never shied away from a controversy. She was without a doubt one of the feistiest people you would ever meet. I have to say, I don't think we ever sat at a table the hostess showed us to in a restaurant. Mom always knew where SHE wanted to sit. Nobody ever told her 'No.'
Jo was living at Carriage House Estates when she met and married Otie Hunter. Jo and Otie were very blessed to share their love of one another till the very end.
Jo is survived by her husband Otie Hunter, her sister Neta Hendrickson of
Ft. Worth, TX, her children David (Kristin), Linda Parizo (Tom), and Susie Kelly (Matt). She has nine beautiful grandchildren, Shannon (Loren), Patrick (Anna), Bob (Brandy), Justin, Lauren (Chris), Allie, Jessica, Bailey and Morgan. She will be missed by three great grandsons, Ian and Kelly Zepeda and Landon Allsworth.
The grandkids loved talking to Jomaw and gleaning from her incredible knowledge on so many different topics. She loved going to Starbucks, Roadhouse and of course Sorella's.
I want to thank the loving team that cared for our mom. Especially Carol Sparks who loved her for 8 years. Kylisa, Sylvia and Owie provided tender care for her the last few months. A special thanks to Dr. Hemmal Kothary, whom she adored for 10 years. He went above and beyond caring for her. Thanks to Bakersfield Community Hospice for their help through this difficult time. A private family memorial will be held this month for Jomaw.
It was a precious honor to share my life with you. We love you. And Jomaw, we were listening.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to R.M. Pyles Boys Camp at 27211 Henry Mayo Dr. Valencia, CA 91355-1009
