Benjamin Bowles

( - Bef Nov 1768)

Traditionally Benjamin is said to be the father of the John Bowles who married Mary Redford. I have no proof of this relationship, nor do I know how Benjamin might fit in with the other Bowles families present in Goochland. Some show him as the son of the third John Bowles in a row - a John born 1648 about whose wife was Jane. I have found nothing that would give me confidence in this lineage.

"Marriage Bonds in Goochland County" William and Mary College Quarterly Historical Magazine, Vol. 7, No. 2. (Oct., 1898), pp. 98-106.
June 20, 1744. Benjamin Bowles to Mary Webber; sec., Philip Webber; witn., H. Wood.

Mary may have been the daughter of Philip Webber and his wife Annis.

Some show her name as Mary Elizabeth Webber.
Will of Mary Bowles of Hanover co., Va. Dated July 8, 1795; proved Dec. 8, 1807. Gives youngest son Augustine real and personal estate. Thomas and Millie Bowles witnesses. Henrico D. B. 3, p. 358.
But when she signed the marriage permission for John Bowles, son of Benjamin deceased, she apparently gave her name as Elizabeth Bowles - this was in 1768.

Benjamin Bowles provided security for the estate of Augustine Webber, the brother of Mary Webber Bowles, in Goochland County, Virginia August 1758 and Augustine Webbers's son John chose Benjamin Bowles his guardian in September 1758.
