I believe that Harvey grew up with his uncle Andrew K. Lawson - probably living in Mason Co VA and the Illinois.

In 1850, Randolph Co, IL, Hh 886 is this:
Andrew Lawson, age 55, b. VA. Martha 21, Mason 19, Sarah 17, all born in Virginia.
Next door is Henry Lawson, age 23, b. VA, Matilda 19, b. IL, and Sarah age 1.
Note: The way the enumerator in this census joins his "a's" to the preceding capital letter, plus the way the name is cramped - this name could the Harvy, not Henry.

Randolph Co IL marriage: Harvey Lawson to Meliss Ann Moore, 23 Dec 1848.

An online query suggests that Harvey was born 1824, married first Milinda Moore and 2nd Emily Wood. He had a child Sarah by the first wife and then six more children by the 2nd wife.

Harvey moved to Jefferson Co IL before 1860. His census record there:

Hh 99, same place
another Harvey Lawson, age 20, Martha 22, Dicey 18, and Andrew age 14 - all born in Illinois - this would appear to be several siblings living together.
In 1860, I found Dicey C. age 8, Andrew J. age 4. They were part of the household of David Lawson, age 42, b. KY, Effa, age 43 b. TN, Margaret J. Shelton, age 21, b. TN, Samuel P. Shelton, age 20, b. IL as were all the rest, James S. Shelton age 18, Sarah E. Shelton age 15, Abigail Lawson age 12, Allen H. [Harvey?] Lawson age 10, and Dicey C. & Andrew J. Lawson

Wm. Lawson, age 55, "father" born VA as were his parents.
Emily 51, "mother" born TN, her parents also
Enoch, son age 22. A. K., son age 18. Emma, daughter, age 16. W. S., son age 12, and M.M., daughter age 7.
Although some of the children haven't aged appropriately, this must be Harvey and family.
