CHAMNESS. William Chamness was born in Chatham County, North Carolina, June 15, 1793, and died at his home three miles southwest of Carlos City on Sunday, April 28, 1886, aged ninety five years, ten months and thirteen days.
He was married to Charity Moore in North Carolina (date not known) and they were parents of two children. After the death of his first wife he was married to Margaret Hinshaw and there were nine children as the fruits of this marriage. He removed from North Carolina to this county about the year 1822 and has resided in this county most of the time since that time. His third marriage was to Hannah Hutchens in July, 1853, who survives him.
He was a member of church for about sixty years, first belonging to the Friends' church and then the United Brethern church. His funeral services were held at Cherry Grove meeting house last Monday, attended by a large congregation of People, by Rev. I. V. D. R. Johnson of the Christian Church.
The deceased was the grandfather of Mrs. Joseph Cramor of this city, and was a worthy and respectable citizen. He was one of the earliest settlers of the county, and had out lived most of the friends of his early days. Peace to his ashes.
