The incompetency hearing of son Samuel took place during the lifetime of James M. Haden, but after the death of his mother:

Petition of James M. Haden, Samuel S. Haden is incompetent from want of understanding to manage his own affairs by reason of excessive use of intoxicating drink or other cause and that said Samuel S. Haden is 22 years of age.
He is entitled to an undivided one-fifth interest in the real estate of his mother, deceased. It is important a guardian be appointed.
Jury was called and on 11 Mar 1898 they declared Samuel insane and incompetent.

Thos. H. Vanderford, Jr. was appointed the guardian of Samuel.

2 May 1898 - Brought to the attention of the court that the defendant Samuel S. Haden has married a wife. Plaintiff to be allowed to amend the complaint.
Papers concerning Carrie Haden, wife of Samuel S. Vanderford was apptd guardian for Carrie Haden on 16 May 1898 - she was underage.

I have not been able to find Samuel or Carrie in 1900.
