Porter, and William Whitsett. Reese Porter is listed of Giles Co TN.
Filed 24 Jul 1817. Reese Porter heirs vs. William Whitsett. Died testate.

The book on descendants of William & Peggy Fleming Brown by Rugeley has errors concerning the details of this family. Rugeley gave two wives for Reese Porter Jr: 1st Mary Whitsett and 2nd Sally D. Ewing who died on Wed 4 Feb 1829. She also states that Mary Whitsett died on the same day as Reese. Since he was dead how could he have taken a 2nd wife? Obviously the Logan Co KY records were not accessed. The marriage records reveal that Reese Porter's wife was Sarah "Sally" Whitsitt, not Mary. Estate records and deeds from Logan Co reveal that Reese left a widow who remarried and three minor children. Sally Whitsitt Porter's 2nd marriage is also recorded in Logan Co - she married 2nd in Aug of 1813 to William Y. C. Ewing. Sally's parents were William Whitsitt and Eleanor "Ellen" Menees/McNees. Sally had a brother James Whitsitt who was a Baptist minister in Davidson Co TN - that could be how she became acquainted with Reese Porter. If there is some proof of a wife named Mary in regard to Reese Junior, that would have had to have been a Mary whose surname is unknown and would have taken place before he married Sally Whitsitt in 1804 and there would have been no surviving children of said marriage.

Garrett's War of 1812 Soldiers, p.159, said to list Reese Porter, Junr, wife Sarah Whitsitt. Since he died 1811, this is quite confusing.
