James Menees

Scotch-Irish. Name was likely McNees in Ireland but various spellings in the records. Came to America from County Antrim in Ireland after 1730. It is not known which side of the Atlantic they may have been married.
James "Meneice" had a warrant for 50 acres of land in Lancaster Co, PA. Survey was dated 4 Oct 1739.

John, Ralph, James, and William Whiteside [Whitsett] also had surveys in Lancaster Co from 1738-1750, By 1750, William Whiteside's warrant is in Cumberland Co which had been formed from Lancaster that year.
Lived in Amherst Co VA until 1782 when they went to reside near son Benjamin. In Nov 1783, he took up residence with Whitsitts in Henry Co until they left for Tennessee in Oct of 1790. He then lived with his grandchildren Mr. & Mrs. William Breathitt until his death in 1792.
One database online had the second wife as Margaret Allen wtihout source. This same database had the specific date for a marriage of James's daughter Ellen to William Whitsitt, as the 30 May 1764 in Lebanon, PA.
